“Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” Psalm 2:8
When You Know Love
There are things in life that we know because they are facts we have been given, and then there are things we know in life because we experience them ourselves. We live them and they become part of who we are.
This is a little what it’s like having children. You know that a parent loves their child. (or at least that is the original design) It’s a fact. I knew it. Then I had kids and suddenly that fact became something so much greater than merely knowing that I would love my kids.
At some point, even the word ‘love’ that gets tossed around frivolously for so many reasons started to seem inadequate for the expanse of this great swelling inside of me for these children. This love grows and increases until some day, all that you are falls headlong into it and, in a sense, you cease to exist. You jump off that heart cliff into the place where their joy, their peace, their security, their happiness is now where you find your life.
The love is no longer a fact you recite. ‘Love’ is who you are. I know this because I have three daughters who have each happily pushed me headlong off of that beautiful precipice.
“You are my son. Today I have become your Father.”
When God made that statement to King David in Psalm Chapter 2:7-8, I can’t help but wonder if He was standing high atop a similar cliff peering down into the enveloping fathomless expanse of His love for His child.
The verse goes on to say, “Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.” And being a father myself now, I get it. There really isn’t anything you wouldn’t do for your children if it was in your power, and if it was in their best interest.
When YOU pray…
How beautiful is it that when the disciples asked Jesus how they should pray, the first thing He says, the very first thing that is supposed to come out of our mouths when we approach God in prayer is that first glimpse of what He most wants us to understand. …our Father in heaven…
Whatever you need… when you call upon the One who leapt into the expanse of His own love for you, believe in the power of that love, and you’ll see Him demonstrate that love in your life.
