Life Inside The Fortress – Psalm 91:2
There are really quite a few verses in the Bible where the Lord is described as a ‘fortress’. King David was particularly fond of referring to the God who had protected him from more than a few enemies who would tried to end his life.
As I visualize a fortress, one thing stands out to me, and that is the wall that surrounds the perimeter. In my mind, it looks pretty medieval. Large imposing stones rising high off of the ground creating an impenetrable layer of defense between all that is inside the fortress and all that is outside. Of course there’s a large drawbridge, and a moat, and let’s go ahead and throw some man-eating alligators in there while we’re at it.
This wall stands between the fortress inhabitants and the outside world. Nothing gets to the individuals safely living inside without passing through that wall. In fact, the fortress entirely dictates all that passes in and out of the lives of those living on the inside.
This is what God is in our lives. When we take refuge in Him, He becomes our fortress. He becomes that wall that truly is impenetrable by anything that would want have the power to harm us.
As a believer living within that fortress, nothing on the outside can touch you without going through that wall. They can stand on the outside with all of their weapons looking all kinds of threatening and dangerous, but their only power is the fear that you give to them. …because they can’t touch you! And if they do come through that wall, it’s because He has allowed them to and you’re up for the battle, and it’s time to live the super-conqueror lifestyle of the empowered believer.
Make time today to step inside your fortress, and then let the peace and safety that is abundant within that Holy wall saturate your soul today.
