John 1:5 - The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

When The Light Shines Into Your Darkness

A couple of months ago I was in prayer for a dear friend who had been experiencing an exceptionally long dark season in their life. It seemed like there was a cloud of gloom that was constantly blocking out the joy and peace in their life.

As I was praying for this person, God showed me something that I think perhaps some of my readers might benefit from and perhaps apply to your own situations.

As I prayed, God showed me this person standing in a dark and empty space. There was nothing around them except for darkness. I understood that this represented the season of life they were experiencing. The next thing I saw was a light come on behind the place where they were standing.

I began to get excited because I knew that this was God bringing a new light and hope to the seemingly hopelessness of the situation. I expected to see the person turn around and step into the light and be free from the sadness they were living in.

Instead, nothing at all happened. The light was shining behind this person, almost silhouetting them, but they just stood there unaware of the light that was penetrating the darkness only a few feet behind them.

The Lord spoke to me then and said something like this… ‘I am shinning a light into their darkness, but they have to look for it. Unless they’re willing to turn their gaze from the darkness and seek the light that I’m offering, they’ll remain in the situation they’re in.’ (paraphrase my own)

I’m happy to say that when I shared this account with this friend, they received it with openness and acceptance. I’m also thankful to say that over the past few months I’ve watched this person begin to step back into the light of their calling and hope.

I normally don’t share experiences like this, but I felt like I was supposed to with this one. So I share this with the hopes that if you happen to be one of those persons finding yourself dark place, and we all are at times, that you will begin to search for the Light that is shining in your darkness.

Acts 17:27 “that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us”
