Throwing Rocks at Giants - A David and Goliath Story

Throwing Rocks at Giants

When you feel like a piss-ant…

If you’re anything like me today, then you’re facing some challenges in life that seem way beyond your own ability to solve. I’m talking about the kind of problems that make you feel like an ant in the middle of the track at the Indianapolis 500. Well today we’re going to turn the tables as we start throwing rocks at giants.

An entire nation paralyzed with fear…

Sometimes we pray for miracles, but they fail to appear because we don’t give God any actions to work through. There was a familiar giant in the Bible by the name of Goliath. Big dude somewhere between 9 1/2 feet tall and 11 feet tall. By comparison Shaquille O’Neal is only 7 feet tall. When the armies of Israel and the Philistines lined up for war, Goliath came out for the Philistines and started talking trash.

It worked. His threat was simple. Send out someone to fight me. If he wins, we’ll be your servants. If I win, you’ll be our servants. NO ONE in the entire army of Israel had the C.O. Jones to stand up to this guy. His overwhelming size had them all paralyzed with fear.

A punk kid with big faith…

As many of you already know, a young guy by the name of David shows up and sees Goliath doing his thing and asks who is going out to fight him.

God didn’t need a mighty warrior to defeat Goliath, He just needed someone willing to be used.(Short Version) He finds out everyone is afraid. He finds out there’s a hot princess and lots of cash as a reward, and then he uses his slingshot to drop a rock into the giant’s skull. Fame, fortune, and the smokin’ hot princess are  his…

Showing up to the fight…

This post came to me recently as I was praying and begging God to help me out with some financial giants in my own life. They seemed to be impossibly large no matter how I strategized.

This is what I felt like God showed me. Since I was paralyzed by fear, I wasn’t doing anything. I was avoiding my giant and hoping it would just go away. (Just like Israel did.)

I was praying for miracles, but I wasn’t giving God anything to work with. God didn’t need a mighty warrior to defeat Goliath, He just needed someone who would give him something to work with.

Throwing rocks at giants…

God does awesome things for people with the audacity to start throwing rocks at giants!David was a just a kid with some rocks, but he faced Goliath with what he had and trusted God to do the miraculous. I believe that God always honors this kind of faith in action.

What kind of giants are you facing today? Have you been running from them or ignoring them and hoping that they’ll go away?

If so, then I want to challenge you today to take whatever you have and attack that giant with all the faith and tenacity that you can find.

God does awesome things for people with the audacity to start throwing rocks at giants!

Jeremy: Your blog is fantastic – in content and appearance. I am so glad I don’t have to be perfect or even “together” to be used by God. I just have to be wiling. Thanks for the reminder.

I stumbled on this just this morning. I just love the ‘attitude’ that you write with. Your passion is so contagious. As a mom of four, I quite often have said to my kids; “drop your rocks!” (adultery story) – but, rocks are also a daily necessary weapon as God shows us through David – and… “on Christ the solid rock I stand”!!! (They could also save us from the Zombie invasion!!!!) Keep sharing your crazy good gift with all of us!

Comments like this absolutely make my day… maybe even my entire weekend. :)

Thanks so much for your feedback, and rocks will DEFINITELY be plentiful and approved weapons in the Zombie invasion!

Many blessings as you teach the kids when to drop the rocks, and when to pick them up.
